MEN’S CLUB
Co-Presidents: Mike Binder & Mark Weiser
This Year the Men’s Club Honored Saul Cohen and Marc Weiser!
The Shaare Tefila Men’s Club offers a spectrum of activities designed to promote the social, physical, and spiritual health of its members. The Men’s Club is a full participant in programs organized by the Seaboard Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. These include the annual Men’s Club Shabbat, the Yom Hashoah Yellow Candle distribution, and the "It’s Academic" competition in which members of the region’s Men’s Clubs match wits in a knowledge competition.
Sports
The Shaare Tefila Men’s Club has been a regional leader in organizing athletic events for the benefit of our members and Men’s Clubs throughout the Greater Washington area. Shaare Tefila currently fields two teams in each of the spring and fall inter-synagogue softball league and two basketball teams in a winter league.
Sports Brunch
When not playing on the field, our members participate in the annual Sports Brunch which includes a speaker from the world of professional sports. Recent speakers have included a trainer from the Oakland Athletics, a member of the Baltimore Orioles coaching staff, and the producer of a documentary film on the life of Hank Greenberg. The Sports Brunch includes the elevation of a Men’s Club Member to our own Sports Hall of Fame.
A much anticipated event each January is the Men’s Club Super Bowl Blast that features a nosh-in and the game on a big-screen projection TV.
Breakfasts
At our periodic breakfast events, Men’s Club members and guests are entertained and informed by guest speakers from the worlds of business, finance, medicine, politics and culture. Each year several member CPAs discuss the latest changes in the tax code. Recently, the Men’s Club organized an open forum on relations between African-Americans and Jews. Leaders from both communities participated.
Men’s Club dues are currently $30 per year. New members to Shaare Tefila receive a free year of membership. The club is always interested in recruiting new members to its Board of Directors. Currently, the Men’s Club has members who range from those who are charter members of Shaare Tefila to single men and young married men.
