Shaare Tefila Sisterhood 2008-2010

For decades, the Shaare Tefila Sisterhood has been a vibrant, active, and joyful part of our congregation. Sisterhood offers women the companionship of other women, provides training for leadership roles in the Jewish community, and supports the Congregation in a myriad of ways. The Sisterhood is a member of the Seaboard branch of the Women’s League of Conservative Judaism. In 1997, Shaare Tefila hosted the Spring Convention. The Sisterhood is proud to be an active part of the Women’s League Torah Fund which supports the Jewish Theological Seminary for the past 25 years.
PROGRAMS
Sisterhood programs are diverse; some of interest to most women, others targeted to specific groups. They range from the home arts of cooking and baking through secular issues such as women’s health and welfare, to the study and practice of religious issues affecting women. A Sisterhood Shabbat is held annually with Sisterhood members conducting the services.

FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES
The Sisterhood conducts many programs to raise funds for the Congregation. Some examples are:
| Sale of scrip to most of the local supermarkets |
| Mother’s Day Dinner (attendees are waited on by the Men’s Club) |
| Bingo |
| Theater Parties |
| Progressive Dinners |
Volunteerism in the Sisterhood is always associated with camaraderie. Many a long term friendship between Congregation families began while chopping salad in the kitchen.
Sisterhood dues are $36 per year with the first year’s membership free to new Congregation members.
