Donation Policy

Donation and Dedication Policy
Our Congregation receives requests for the donation of items as well as money. We also encourage donors to dedicate existing or new items for both our building and our cemetery. The Congregation Board of Directors has passed a policy with the following guidelines.

Donations can take the form of either a gift of money, financial certificates (e.g., stocks, bonds, etc.) or items of value. A Dedication is a monetary gift in exchange for recognition and a Dedicated Item is a congregation-owned product, religious object, room, facility or cemetery. The Disposition of an item is a decision to keep, display or sell a donated item.

Approval of all item donations shall be either by the Executive Committee, a Board designated committee or the President. Disposition of a donated item is at the discretion of the approving committee, or if approved by the President, the Executive Committee. The approval/disapproval shall be a final decision.
Donations of money can be made to the Educational Scholarship Fund or to a restricted fund. A large number of donors donating money for a specific purpose shall be encouraged to give to the Educational Scholarship Fund.

A minimum donation of $15 shall be necessary in order to have an acknowledgment card sent to the donee. All non-member donors shall receive written acknowledgment for donations of $15 or more.

The Finance Committee shall be the lead organization to maintain a list of Dedicated Items with associated dedicated values. The primary purpose of assigned dedicated values shall be to raise money for the Congregation. The Board can elect to dedicate an item from the list for whatever purpose it deems appropriate. Monetary donations to the Educational Scholarship Fund of a substantial nature, as determined by the Board, can be used for a specific purpose in the form of a Dedicated Item.

A donor(s) can donate money to buy a new dedicated item if (1) the Board approves the item and (2) the amount of the donation is greater than the cost of the item.

Donated items and donated money to either the Educational Scholarship Fund or to a specific restricted fund shall be recognized in a regular publication, such as the Tower, but has no dedication ceremony. A dedication of a specific permanent item in the synagogue shall be recognized by a plaque identifying the donor(s) and the purpose of the dedication. Plaques on the Builder’s Wall generally recognize dedicated items in the sanctuary. Dedicated items outside the sanctuary generally have an attached plaque or engraving. A dedication ceremony could be held at the discretion of the Board or its designated committee.

The Board of Directors has authority to change this policy.
